Critical thinking skills involve processing information. The more rapidly and accurately you process information, the more “conscious” you are. My dogs are more conscious than I am about what animals travelled through our yard last night, but I’m somewhat more conscious than they about how to support their lifestyles.

Sometimes you’ll be dealing with people who are more “conscious” than you, sometimes about the same, and sometimes somewhat (or much) less. I call the last category the “unconscious.” That’s why you’ll have trouble communicating with them. It’s far easier to “speed up” to those processing more quickly than it is to “slow down” to those who just seem “not to get it.”

Thin k about this when you’re considering a new client, subcontractor, partner, professional services provider, advisor, coach, and so forth. My suggestion is that you’re best off with people at your speed or somewhat faster if you’re going to rely on them to use the right judgment and prudent risks.
