Disclaimers: I believe in capitalism and entrepreneurs making money (and paying taxes on what they make). There’s nothing wrong with products and services you can afford if they’re legal and ethical. I fly first class and I drive exotic cars. It’s not my daddy’s money, I’ve earned every cent.

But I have to admit that I’m repulsed by the overindulgent, mind-blowing production of the Bezos/Sanchez wedding taking over Venice. And the hypocrisy of the “A-list” guests, most of whom are extremely wealthy and extremely liberal, who back climate change control efforts and raising minimum wages an so forth, zooming in there on private jets in lavish quarters consuming like it’s the end of the world….

Maybe I’m overreacting. But doesn’t the entire, never-ending “show” along with the media coverage and adulation of excess make you want to shower?

The trouble with the dumb, autumn, return-to-school essay “What I Did on My Summer Vacation” is that it should be completed before summer with “What I Plan to Do on My Summer Vacation.” Then kids can learn the distinctions about what has to happen (planning) to reach goals, and how to prevent the obstacles that may appear.

Just like your business plans. It’s easy enough to look back and try to learn something, but the point is to plan for success, not just “see what happens.” Unless, of course, you drive the car by looking through the rear window and not the windshield, and you never did get to the beach any of those summers.
