I was watching the Boston Celtics championship basketball victory in Boston Garden with 20,000 people going berserk. It occurred to me and my wife that these people are men and women, black and white, native born and immigrant, straight and gay, and a mixture of so much more diversity, spanning four generations or more.
And there they are, embracing each other, exchanging high-fives, and mutually joyous, having watched men race up and down a court throwing a ball around and making hoops. The mere acts of athleticism and teamwork ignited an arena of strangers to become family for a glorious moment in time.
Aren’t there other things we can all rally around that will bring us together instead of ripping us apart? Are there no leaders any more who can do that?
