I believe that some fortunate and unfortunate things happen to all of us at times, with no apparent justification (although we often know the cause). You can win a lottery or lose your health. They upgrade you at the hotel because they need your less expensive room, but there’s no hot water in the morning.
The difference is how we react. Many lottery winners (or winners for a night in the casino) are no better off a year or a week later. Many people who are ill fight regain their health, or who have lost money find ways to make more.
Resilience is not about absorbing loss, it’s about “bouncing forward” from loss because we’re using the experience positively. Stuff happens to all of us. But that should never be the end of that story.
No matter what happens, the important thing, within out control, is what we do about it
