We hear a legal decision that disagrees with our values and beliefs, and seems to us that it convicts the innocent or frees the guilty. It’s easy to cry that “the system is corrupt and politicized.” But maybe it’s just working impartially.
One of the roots of polarization is that it’s insufficient to “win,” the other side also must “lose.” You listen only to those who agree with you and don’t tolerate other ideas. And those who disagree aren’t merely “wrong,” they’re also “inferior.”
That’s not the road to freedom, that’s the road to tyranny.
